How to Calculate Salary Tax in Pakistan

Pakistan employs a progressive tax system. Your annual taxable salary is divided into segments, and each segment is taxed at its specific rate (as shown in the table above). Many people make the mistake of applying your slab rate on your gross income. which results in an increase in the tax; in fact, only that part of income falling in a given slab is taxed at the rate applicable to that slab.

Tax should be calculated based on annual figures. The correct method is to calculate the salary on an annual basis (monthly amount × 12). Annual tax brackets are then applied, and the monthly amount is determined by dividing the total annual tax by 12.Applying annual tax brackets to monthly income yields incorrect results.

Frequently Asked Questions

What is Pakistan salary tax for FY 2026-27?

For salaried individuals, FY 2026-27 tax is 0% on annual taxable salary up to PKR 600,000, then progressive rates: 1% on the slice up to PKR 1.2 million, 11% up to PKR 2.2 million, 23% up to PKR 3.2 million, 30% up to PKR 4.1 million, and 35% above that. A 9% surcharge on income tax applies when taxable salary exceeds PKR 10 million.

How is monthly salary tax calculated?

Multiply your monthly salary by 12, apply the annual progressive slabs to that annual figure once, then divide the annual tax by 12. Never apply the annual slabs to a single month’s salary — that is the most common error and it dramatically understates tax for anyone above the lowest slab.

What is the tax-free salary limit?

Annual taxable salary up to PKR 600,000 — roughly PKR 50,000 per month — is taxed at 0%. Above that threshold, only the amount exceeding PKR 600,000 is taxed, starting at 1%.

How is annual income tax calculated?

Progressively: your annual taxable income is divided across the slabs, each slice is taxed at its own marginal rate, and the amounts are added together. Each higher slab also carries a fixed base amount equal to the tax on all the slices below it — for example, the slab above PKR 4.1 million starts from a base of PKR 616,000 plus 35% of the excess.

What happens when salary exceeds PKR 10 million? A 9% surcharge

is levied on the income tax payable, on top of the base tax. This calculator never hides it inside the final number — it is shown as its own line: base tax + surcharge = total annual tax.

Can I use this calculator on mobile?

Yes. The layout is fully responsive — large tap-friendly input, full-width buttons, stacked result cards and a horizontally scrollable slab table. It works in any modern mobile browser with no installation.
